The N.C. PSI administrative team is based in this suite of offices. This includes the executive director and the operational team members.

Culpepper Family Lobby

Culpepper Lobby - 1st floor of the Plant Sciences Building

A welcoming, two-story entrance that invites the public to learn more about the N.C. PSI story, recognizes its donors, and highlights N.C. PSI research and North Carolina’s network of 18 research stations. The Culpepper Family Lobby will be the social hub of the facility.

Deloatche Family Elevator

Demo Lab

This state-of-the-art lab space is designed to showcase ongoing N.C. PSI research projects to the public and serves as a hands-on educational area for students, teachers, extension agents, and other groups. The Demo Lab can be viewed by audiences from the Culpepper Family Lobby.

Executive Director’s Office

This office is home to the N.C. PSI executive director, Adrian Percy. This renowned leader and accomplished scientist guides the vision for the N.C. PSI and manages the world-class science being conducted in the building.

Farm Credit Lawn

Main Staircase

North Carolina Farm Bureau Learning Commons

The North Carolina Farm Bureau Learning Commons.

An interactive, high-tech convergence space where visitors can learn about North Carolina agriculture and NC State’s work in plant science teaching, research and extension.

Executive Director’s Conference Room

This formal meeting room supports small- to moderate-sized groups for scheduled meetings, discussions or team gatherings, and primarily serves the N.C. PSI leadership team and their stakeholders.

Plaza

Plaza in front of the Plant Sciences Building

The Plaza is the grand pathway leading into and out of the building and is a great spot to enjoy a beautiful day outside of this world-class facility.

Porch

Drawing from a rural theme, the N.C. PSI Porch welcomes students, faculty, partners and the general public into the building, and functions as a common place to meet and enjoy being outside.

Seminar Rooms

A flexible meeting and lecture space that can accommodate up to 135 partners, students or stakeholders for seminars and workshops, with technology to support global connectivity.

Terrace

Flowing out from the Seminar Rooms, the Terrace is great for outdoor receptions or if guests just need some fresh air between meetings.

Test Planting Plots

Test planting areas showcase plant varieties that are being used or are under development by plant scientists from around the state. The areas are rotated regularly to demonstrate various research activities. Thank you to the donors who made these Test Planting Plots possible: Anderson Farms, Dale C. and Genia Tyson Bone, Pam G. Marrone and Michael J. Rogers, William Reid, and the Vick Family Farms.

Second Floor

Overlooking the front lawn, this break space is equipped with unique amenities to support informal team meetings, lunches or spontaneous exchanges.

BSC Lab 1

This lab provides a biosafety cabinet for safely and securely working with hazardous materials or disease-causing microbes, and is available for use by researchers.

CMIF Suite

The Cellular and Molecular Imaging Facility (CMIF) is the flagship microscopy core for the University. This lab provides cutting-edge equipment for imaging that not only serve the needs of the Plant Sciences Building, but also the general NC State research community.

The suite includes two large imaging rooms for confocal microscopy and three smaller rooms configured to be flexible in size to accommodate changing needs of future generation microscopy equipment. A preparation area, enclosed manager’s office, two technician stations, and a digital analysis and instruction area for educational demonstrations are all part of the CMIF suite.

Leaf Wall Staircase

Spanning from the ground floor to the fourth floor, the Leaf Wall Staircase is the spine of the building, with a unique plant-theme design on the wall to connect people from the public floor to the research floors above.

Genomic Sciences Laboratory

The Genomic Sciences Lab is one of 3 core facilities in the Plant Sciences Building

The Genomic Sciences Laboratory (GSL) is an NC State core facility that offers the latest equipment and infrastructure required to support plant science researchers in the areas of sequencing and genomic prediction technologies. The GSL also has a secondary shared equipment analysis lab, which provides space for shared equipment for researchers working across key core lab functions.

Growth Suite

A key lab support space for research teams in the building, this set of rooms includes two walk-in plant growth chambers, a cold lab and a cold storage room.

Huddle Rooms

The second floor of the Plant Sciences Building has four Huddle Rooms. The Huddle rooms are small, enclosed rooms where up to four people can collaborate or where individuals can work in a quiet space.

Open Labs

The open labs in the building provide flexible research space with the ability to accommodate a range of research team sizes and adapt to future research project needs. The second floor houses 2 open lab areas.

Open Office Conference Rooms

There are two small conference room on the second floor, which are primarily used to support the research teams in the local office neighborhood. Ideal for lab team meetings, these room can accommodate approximately 10 people.

METRIC Lab

The Molecular Education, Technology and Research Innovation Center (METRIC) is another NC State core facility that is housed in the Plant Sciences Building. The METRIC lab provides state-of-the-art infrastructure and cutting-edge analytical instrumentation for molecular and OMICS-based research.

Study Rooms

There are four Study rooms on the second floor. These study rooms are designed for individuals to have a quiet place to work on research results or other “heads down” work. A special thank you to William K. and Ann T. Collins, whose donation made one of the second floor Study Rooms possible.

This large conference room can accommodate meetings of 12 to 14 people.

Atticus Conference Room

This large conference room can accommodate meetings of 18 to 20 people.

Biosafety Cabinet Lab

Lounge Area

The third floor lounge area offers comfortable seating to enable collaboration with colleagues in an open, casual environment.

Makerspace and Flex Labs

The Makerspace is a 1,050 square-foot laboratory environment for rapid
prototyping of low-cost custom hardware and software solutions for monitoring plant and cropping systems across agricultural scales. Supported by the Makerspace director, this space is a routine resource for development of new techniques and for training faculty, staff, students, and research station personnel. There are two smaller Makerspace Flex labs located next to the main Makerspace area.

Open Labs

The two open labs on the third floor provide flexible research space with the ability to accommodate a range of research team sizes and adapt to future research project needs.

Optical Sensing Lab

This lab provides key equipment to supports plant science researchers in the areas of fiber optics and related imaging technologies.

Transformation Media Prep Lab

This lab provides key equipment to support plant science researchers in the areas of plant transformation, sterile media preparation and related technologies.

Open Office Conference Rooms

The third floor has two small conference rooms, which are primarily used to support the research teams in the local office neighborhood. Ideal for lab team meetings, this room can accommodate approximately 10 people.

Study Rooms

There are seven Study Rooms on the third floor of the building. These study rooms are designed for individuals to have a quiet place to work on research results or other “heads down” work. A special thank you to Richard C. and Marcia H. Reich, whose donation made one of the third floor Study Rooms possible.

Think Tank

The “Think Tank” is an enclosed workstation area provided to staff requiring a quiet area for focused work. This space is particularly suited for data scientists.

Huddle 5, Huddle 7, Huddle 12, and Huddle 14

Huddle rooms are small, enclosed rooms where one to three people can collaborate or where individuals can step into for personal calls or work in a quiet space.

Lounge Area 3

The lounge area is casual seating area to enable collaboration with colleagues in an open, comfortable environment.

This small conference room is primarily intended to support the research teams in the local office neighborhood. Ideal for lab team meetings, this room can accommodate approximately 10 people.

Greenhouse (Fifth Floor)

Greenhouse 11 and Service Area

BSL3 Greenhouse on the 5th floor of the Plant Sciences Building.

This BSL-3 greenhouse is designated for research that must be conducted with strict environmental controls and safeguards needed for working with and containing plant diseases and insects not currently present in the United States.
