Dee Shore
Bio
Dee Shore leads communications efforts for the N.C. Plant Sciences Initiative. She joined the staff part-time in 2024, bringing nearly four decades of communications experience at NC State University and as a newspaper journalist.
She manages the PSI’s monthly newsletter and social media presence and uses its website as a platform for telling stories about the many ways that the N.C. PSI enhances the economy, the environment and society in North Carolina and beyond.
She also serves as a point of contact for the news media and other communications specialists on campus and beyond, helping them connect to N.C. PSI’s stories and agricultural expertise.
Background
Dee began her NC State career as a news writer and publications editor for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences in 1989, then went on to serve as assistant editor of NC State’s Alumni Magazine and as media relations specialist and newsletter editor for University News Services.
She returned to CALS in 1995, serving as Extension media and communications specialist, launching the college magazine and supporting and, at times leading, multifaceted agricultural communications campaigns.
In 2004, she was named head of CALS’ Department of Communication Services, then a 40-person unit providing strategic communications expertise and specialized communication support for CALS’ administrators, faculty and staff engaged in research, teaching and extension.
In 2010, she returned to the specialist role, launching social media efforts, supporting award-winning Extension disaster communications preparedness and recovery efforts, and venturing into multimedia storytelling.
Education
Dee holds a bachelor’s in English from Queens University and an NC State master’s in technology for international development, with an emphasis on technical and organizational communication in agriculture.
She’s continued to grow her communications skill as an active member of ACE, an international association of communicators and educators extending knowledge about agriculture, natural resources, and life and human sciences. She serves as 2025-26 chair of its 100+ member Media Relations and Writing community.
