Awards and Honors
The Prestage Department of Poultry Science faculty, staff, and students are award-winning innovators in research, teaching, service, and Extension outreach. They are recognized by CALS, NC State, and national and international organizations and institutions.
Faculty and Staff Awards
2021
- Dr. Lynn Worley-Davis was awarded a 2020-2021 CALS Teaching Award of Merit.
- Rhea Hebert was awarded an Accessibility Champion award for Fall 2020 from the NC State Office of Information Technology.
2020
- Vickie Hedgpeth was recognized with the PDPS Outstanding Employee Award.
- Natasha Dillon won a Pride of the Wolfpack Award.
- Lynn Strother won a Pride of the Wolfpack Award.
- Dellila Hodgson won a Pride of the Wolfpack Award.
- Ondulla Toomer was awarded the U.S. Soybean Board Grant with co-PIs Edgar Oviedo and Michael Joseph.
- Ken Anderson won the Evonik Award for Achievement in Poultry Science from the Poultry Science Association (PSA).
- Ken Anderson was elected as Poultry Science Association Fellow by the Poultry Science Association (PSA); this is the highest award given by PSA.
- Ondulla Toomer won the 12th ARS Innovation Award in Research for “Value-Added Utilization of Peanuts, Peanut By-Products and Sweet Potato Waste By-Products as Aquaculture Feedstock for the Enrichment of the Meat Produced.”
- Ondulla Toomer won the 10th ARS Innovation Award in Research, with co-PI Ken Anderson, for “Value-Added Utilization of Agricultural Waste By-Products as Poultry Feedstock for the Enrichment of Commercially Produced Eggs.”
- Vickie Hedgpeth was recognized by NC State University and Eastman Chemical Company with an award for leadership in safety.
- Elaine Bohórquez was a finalist winner of the Most Innovative Educator Award at Top Hat’s Engage 2020.
2019
- Richard Goforth won the Lois G. Britt Outstanding Extension Agent Award.
- Peter Ferket won the PSA 2019 American Feed Industry Association Poultry Nutrition Research Award.
- Edgar Oviedo was inducted into the Academy of Excellence in Global Engagement by the Office of Global Engagement at NC State.
- Richard Goforth won the Lois G. Britt Outstanding Extension Agent Award from the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service.
- Margaret Ross was a regional winner in North Carolina in the Feature Story category of the National Association of County Agricultural Agents awards.
- Margaret Ross was the state winner for North Carolina in the Program Promotional Package category of the National Association of County Agricultural Agents awards.
- Dan Campeau was the state winner for North Carolina in the Search for Excellence in Young, Beginning, or Small Farmers/Ranchers category of the National Association of County Agricultural Agents awards.
- Dan Campeau was a National Finalist in the Learning Module category of the National Association of County Agricultural Agents awards.
- Christina Sigmon won an Excellence in Safety Award from CALS at NC State.
- Ken Anderson won the 2019 Charles Beard Research Excellence Award from the U.S. Poultry & Egg Association (US Poultry).
2018
- Becca Wysocky won the Tyson Foods Inc. Support Personnel Award from the Poultry Science Association.
- Elaine Bohórquez was named the 2017-2018 CALS Outstanding Graduate Instructor by CALS at NC State.
2017
- Peter Ferket won a National Turkey Federation Research Award from the National Turkey Federation.
- Matthew Livingston won the Student Research Award – Physiology from the Southern Poultry Science Society.
- Edgar Oviedo won the Outstanding Global Engagement Award from the Office of Global Engagement at NC State.
- Lynn Worley-Davis won the Outstanding Contributions to Teaching and Advising award from CALS at NC State.
- Lynn Worley-Davis was awarded an Honorary State FFA Degree from the North Carolina FFA Association.
- Lynn Worley-Davis won a NACTA Award of Merit from NC State.
Student Awards
2021
- The Poultry Science Club won Club of the Year at the 2021 IPPE. This is the third year in a row the club has placed first!
- Alex Blanchard won third place for Student of the Year at the 2021 IPPE.
- Je’Juan Bryant and Maddie Kuwanda (both dual majors in Poultry Science and Animal Science) were named Food Animal Scholars.
2020
- Andrea Rubio received the first John Thomas Brake Memorial Poultry Science Graduate Endowment Award.
- Katherine Cupo was awarded the Embrex Award for Excellence for 2020-21.
- Katherine Cupo won the SPSS Student Award in Pathology at the 2020 IPPE.
- Brittany Wall received a Certificate of Excellence at the 2020 IPPE.
- The Poultry Science Club won Club of the Year at the 2020 IPPE.
2019
- Andrea Rubio won the 2019 Two-Minute NCALS Research Competition.
- Brooke Bartz was awarded a PSA 2019 Student Research Paper Certificate of Excellence.
- Elle Chadwick was awarded a PSA 2019 Student Research Paper Certificate of Excellence.
- Karlinton Flores was awarded a PSA 2019 Student Research Paper Certificate of Excellence.
- Brittany Wall received a PSA 2019 Student Research Certificate of Participation.
- Hernan Alejandro Cordova won first place for his poster presented at Innovations in Agriculture.
- Matthew Warren won a NACTA Graduate Student Teaching Award from the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA).

- Krista Eberle-Krish won the Maurice Stein Fellowship Award from the Poultry Science Association.
- Olivia Wedegaertner received recognition for her Poultry Science Association research poster.
- Katherine Cupo received recognition for her Poultry Science Association Genomics Area research presentation.
- Ben Alig, class of 2018, won the CALS Outstanding Senior Award from CALS at NC State.
- Ben Alig won third place Student of the Year at the 2018 IPPE.
