About

We provide protein to a hungry world.

A Rare Breed

The Prestage Department of Poultry Science is one of only six land-grant academic departments in the U.S. dedicated to poultry science. We produce nearly a third of all poultry science graduates.

Our complete career-preparation pipeline – with abundant scholarship opportunities and a 95% job placement rate – ensures that our graduates go out into the world ready to make real impact.

Poultry production leads North Carolina’s agricultural economy, producing almost 10% of the nation’s product. Those 800 million broilers, 36 million turkeys and 3 billion eggs bring in $3.9 billion a year.

And our department is front and center, fueling innovation and producing its next generation of leaders.

A Next-Level Feed Mill

The NC State Feed Mill Education Unit supports the extension, research and teaching efforts of the Prestage Department of Poultry Science, as well as the Departments of Animal Science and Biological Agricultural Engineering. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the Feed Mill provides our students and faculty with unparalleled hands-on learning opportunities and serves as a valuable resource for industry partners statewide.
