Abstract:
The main aim of the strawberry and viticulture program at NCSU is to contribute to the growth of the strawberry and grape industries. We focus on education and innovation to improve the resilience and longevity of production systems. We root all our efforts in the needs of our stakeholders. Our five year old program has acquired more $7 Million of research funds. We have published 16 peer-reviewed journal articles, given more than 100 workshops, grower presentations and webinars, more than 200 blog posts, published one crop production guide, one disaster preparedness guide and 16 extension publications in total. Outstanding accomplishments of our program are: leadership of a national multi-million dollar USDA-SCRI coordinated agricultural project; the development of a world-wide unique grape growing system; the development of comprehensive extension programs in viticulture and strawberry production; Engagement of growers, agents and students in extension, research and professional development. I want to invite you all to this seminar, during which I will give examples of how we implement NCSU’s land grant mission, address stakeholder needs, provide leadership and strive for impact across both production systems.
