Consumer Horticulture is the only form of agriculture practiced in every county in the United States and has a tremendous impact on the economy, the environment, human health, and communities.
It supports jobs in retail & commercial horticulture as well arborists, landscape architects & designers, landscape professionals, and all the wholesalers who support them.
- 77% of U.S. households garden
- $48 billion spent annually by Do-It-Yourself consumers
- $55 billion spent annually by consumers to purchase horticulture services
Environmental impacts include mitigating climate change; conserving energy, soil, water and air quality; creating habitat; and promoting land stewardship. Improved physical and mental health, building connections, enhancing beauty and increasing value are a few of the impacts on families and communities.
