A Growing Program – Vegetable Production and Food Safety in North Carolina

North Carolina is home to a thriving vegetable industry, with highly diverse cropping systems. The state ranks in the top 10 commodity producers for sweet potato, bell peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, snap beans, watermelon, cabbage and squash. The overall value of fresh produce grown in the state is over $660 million, distributed across the state’s diverse production environments from the eastern coastal plains to the western mountains. In this seminar, Dr. Gunter will highlight the vegetable production research and extension efforts his lab has been studying. Fresh produce safety for both fruit and vegetable crops is a key aspect of this program and will also be discussed. He will also share about his experiences in the classroom!
