Webinar on Cotton Leafroll Dwarf Virus
April 6, 2022 | 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm EDT
Cotton leafroll dwarf disease (CLRDD), caused by the Cotton leafroll dwarf virus (CLRDV), was first reported in the United States in 2017 in the Southern State of Alabama. The virus is transmitted by the cotton aphid, which is ubiquitous in the US cotton belt. The virus quickly spread to other southern states within three years, and to date has been confirmed from North Carolina to Texas. Yield losses have also been observed, with little known about when CLRDV infection occurs, the length of latency periods, disease progression and symptom development, the effect of environmental factors on disease, and yield impacts.
This webinar focuses on the CLRDV Sentinel Plot Working Group and their management recommendations after collaborating with cotton producing states across the cotton belt and coordinating sentinel plot research trials to monitor for infection, vector activity, symptom development, disease progression, genetic susceptibility of cotton varieties and yield impacts.
The Southern IPM Hour presents research, issues, and programs in Integrated Pest Management from the Southern Region. The IPM Hour takes place on the first Wednesday of the every month at 1pm Eastern.
Recordings of the webinars are available after the event.
