We have partnerships down to a science.

From the mountains to the coast, from lab to field to market, our partnerships are as diverse as our state’s economy.

Our network helps us provide students with unique research opportunities for career development. With farmers and scientists alike, we ask the difficult questions that lead to discoveries. We work side-by-side with partners in government and commodity groups to extend knowledge and improve the lives of citizens in our state and beyond.

N.C. Agricultural Research Service

We make innovation possible through our partnerships with academic institutions and government agencies.

College of Agriculture and Life Sciences

NCARS is one of three primary units within CALS, along with Academic Programs and NC State Extension. All share funding and resources to advance the college’s mission. Most NCARS faculty have split appointments with one of the other two units. 

College of Natural Resources

The college houses the Department of Forestry and Environmental Sciences, which receives a federal appropriation of formula funds (McIntire-Stennis) that pass through NCARS. Several NCARS faculty are jointly funded through this partnership. 

North Carolina A&T State University

N.C. A&T is the only other land-grant institution in North Carolina and has many research programs that collaborate with NCARS. Their Extension specialists distribute research-based knowledge and technology across the state. 

UNC-Greensboro School of Health and Human Sciences

The school performs research in the areas of human development, social and cultural influences, human nutrition and other areas of family and consumer sciences funded through an annual allocation from NCARS. 

N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services

NCDA&CS has a unique partnership with NCARS, including co-ownership of 18 research stations (six by NC State, eight by NCDA&CS) and providing the superintendent and farm crew for all stations. 

The National Institue of Food and Agriculture

NIFA funds agricultural research in North Carolina under the Hatch Act of 1862.

International Programs and Partners

We work with international partners to coordinate visits, structure international opportunities and experiences for our students, conduct joint outreach and research projects, and extend knowledge through our CALS Global Academy.

CALS International Programs

International Partners

CALS is located in the third most agriculturally diverse state in the U.S. Our faculty conduct basic and applied research supporting 70 commodities, agribusiness and life science industries. CALS has 18 research stations across N.C., and NC State Extension is present in all 100 counties. Partners can come to us, or we will bring our expertise to them.
