Bio

Dr. Megan Jacob is a Professor of Veterinary Microbiology and the Senior Associate Dean of Administration for CALS. She came to Raleigh after completing her undergraduate education in microbiology at the University of Wyoming and her MS, PhD and post-doctoral work in veterinary pathobiology at Kansas State University. Her graduate and post-doctoral research programs were focused on the epidemiology and ecology of foodborne pathogens, specifically E. coli O157 and Salmonella in feedlot cattle. Megan’s continued research interests are in pre-harvest food safety and transmission dynamics of pathogenic bacteria, specifically at publicly attended livestock interactions. She has also developed a research program in veterinary diagnostic microbiology focused on monitoring antimicrobial resistant organisms in animal populations. She aims to improve the laboratory diagnostic experience for veterinary clinicians and is engaged with projects to expand diagnostic opportunities throughout the US and globally.
