Plant Pathology alumnus, Zoila Gloria Abad, received Fellow Award from the ISPP at the International Congress of Plant Pathology 2018

Gloria earned her Ph.D. in 1993 in Plant Pathology under the direction of Dr. David Shew.  She then worked in the programs of David Shew and Frank Louws. Gloria was the Director and founder of the former Plant Pathogen Identification Laboratory (PPIL) that operated at the Department during 2001-2006. Currently, she is a Principal Investigator at the Mycology Section of the USDA-PPQ Center of Plant Health Science and Technology (CPHST) Beltsville Laboratory and Adjunct Professor at Penn State University Department of Plant Pathology and Environmental Microbiology.  The society presented her with a Fellow Award for professional, lifetime achievements.  Gloria has a long history of leading research and International collaborations in the field of Oomycetes.  She is the current chair of the ISPP Oomycetes Subject Matter Committee (link) with 34 members from 14 countries, and she has organized numerous national and International workshops on Phytophthora species and related organisms since 2004.
