Curious about the effects of long-term farming system choices on soil organic matter, nutrient cycling, greenhouse gas emissions, and weed pressures?

The Center for Environmental Farming Systems (CEFS) will be hosting a FREE “Farming for Ecological Outcomes” webinar on Wednesday, November 3rd.

CEFS has been conducting an experiment since the beginning of the millennium comparing different strategies for agricultural production. Early researchers laid the groundwork for this on-going experiment that is unique in the region for its longevity, but also the breadth of agricultural strategies investigated. Current researchers are investigating relevant impacts of these practices on soil health, climate change, and weed ecology. Some questions posed:

What does tillage do to agroecosystem functioning other than destroy weeds?
What are the impacts when nutrients are applied with mineral fertilizers or as organic amendments?
Do cattle integrated with cropping systems harm the soil?
What happens to the land when agriculture is abandoned?

This 1-hour webinar will briefly introduce you to some findings by three members of the CEFS research team – Dr. Ramon Leon, Dr. Alex Woodley, and Dr. Alan Franzluebbers, all faculty members in the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences at North Carolina State University.

Please register using the link above. A Zoom link will be sent via email once you have registered.
