The CALS Academic Programs team invites teaching faculty and academic staff to join us for a Back-to-School event and lunch with Dean Garey Fox. This half-day event includes the opportunity to participate in drop-in workshop sessions.

The workshops are designed to provide participants with great back-to-school refresher information about classroom and student interaction best practices. Socialize with colleagues and get encouraging start-of-the-year remarks from CALS leadership including Dean Fox and Dr. Kim Allen. Reservations for the lunch portion of this event are required, and seating is limited, so we encourage all interested to register via the link above as soon as possible to reserve your spot.

Registration will close when spots are full.

Drop-In Workshop Sessions Include:

Wellness Session: (9 a.m. – 10 a.m.)

The CALS embedded counselor Luke Strawn will lead this session. Luke will lead a conversation on identifying the best ways to support students while also supporting ourselves. He will take participants through different steps and processes that faculty and staff can utilize to help recognize and assist students needing support.

Teaching Panel: (10 a.m. – 11 a.m.)

As we start the academic year, many of us are thinking about the ways in which we can connect with our students. Join our Q&A panel of award-winning educators from across campus to learn their strategies for connecting inside and outside the classroom.

Inclusive Pedagogy: (11 a.m. – 12 p.m.)

This workshop examines the use of tools to address challenges faced by underrepresented and marginalized students in higher education. We’ll provide practical examples of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) best practices and offer guidance to faculty and staff to better engage with students.
