AHS Welcomes, Awards, Recognitions, and Farewells
We are so thankful for our AHS family! Today we would like to express proper gratitude by acknowledging the many achievements made by our phenomenally hardworking faculty and staff. We would also like to send proper goodbyes to our AHS colleagues, whose time has ended. We wish them all the best and can’t wait to see what they accomplish next.
Welcomes
- Erin McCallum joined the Eat Smart, Move More, Prevent Diabetes and Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less Programs as a data manager on June 12.
- We welcomed Beatriz Caldas to the department as the communications and social media coordinator for the More In My Basket program in late June.
- Lauren Hickey joined the More in My Basket program as the outreach strategy and planning manager in late June.
- Jocelyn Dixon joined the department as assistant director and research project coordinator for the Food-based Early Education (FEEd) Lab in early July.
Awards and Recognitions
- Madison Adams-Roberts, Rachelle Andreatta, and Andrew Waaswa were recognized with the NACTA Graduate Student Teaching Award.
- Virginia Stage was elected to the Society of Nutrition Education & Behavior Leadership Board.
- Beth Wilson, a professor with the AHS department, was awarded the NC FFA Lifetime Achievement Award
- .Virginia C. Stage and Basheerah Enahora will serve as Co-PI’s on a new five-year grant from the CDC for the High Obesity Program (HOP).
- Katie Sanders assistant professor and extension specialist of food systems communication, was awarded Article of the Year by the Journal of Applied Communications.
- Virginia Stage, assistant professor and nutrition education and behavior specialist, has been honored with the prestigious Nutrition Education Research Award by the Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior (SNEB)

Departures
- Alyssa Anderson departed the Steps to Health program to join the School of Health Sciences at Kent State University as a tenure-track faculty member. Congratulations Alyssa!
