Cover Crop and Soil Health Demonstration Day

Please join the Small Farm Unit at Cherry Research Farm for Cover Crop and Soil Health Demonstration Day. Learn about the benefits of cover crops on soil health, planting methods, seeding rate, methods of termination and more. Participants will have an opportunity to stop by the high tunnels to visit the garlic crops. You’ll also hear suggestions from the foundational book published by Southern SARE, Managing Cover Crops Profitably, and how you can apply soil health practices on your farm. Demonstration day is ideal for various audiences, including small-scale, limited-resource, underserved beginning farmers, ranchers, landowners, veterans, etc. The speakers for the day are:
Biswanath Dari, assistant professor and natural resource Extension specialist at North Carolina A&T State University and the Southern SARE State co-coordinator; Melissa Bell, Center for Environmental Farming Systems field research, education and outreach liaison; Heather Berger, a research technician at the CEFS Small Farm Unit; Alex Woodley, farming systems research unit coordinator and assistant professor in the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences at NC State; and Peter Coffey, on-farm research trial coordinator at North Carolina A&T State University.
