Gut Microbiota Research in Spain

SUMMER 2025

Cooper Weir

I spent the summer researching Bifidobacteria populations in neonatal gut microbiotas using DNA extracted from fecal cultures. I quantified the growth of four species when supplied with the 2-fucosyllactose HMO using qPCR. In the process I learned a lot about working in a laboratory setting, as well as experimental procedures. Also, the people in Oviedo were incredibly friendly, and I even made some new friends which is always exciting.
