NCSFMRA Tours Down East

The NC Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers Summer Tour was led by Guido van der Hoeven June 10 – 12, 2018.  The tour was based out of New Bern and visited local farm operations.  The first stop was the McCotter Farm which grows potatoes for the chip companies such as Frito Lay and UTZ.

The second stop was The I&M Oyster Farm which operates in the Pamlico Sound and has a 10 acre lease to grow oysters.  Having been in business for 4 years the company is set to expand as they have increasing demand above the 1,000,000 oysters sold annually.

After lunch, the third stop was the NC State Aquaculture Research center to look at the production of white and striped bass for NC fishing industry.

The last stop was the gardens at Tryon Palace. A good time was had by everyone. The group will reconvene in November for a board meeting.
