Bio

Thaciane Amaral earned her bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine from the Federal University of Goiás in Brazil. In 2022, she was awarded the Andrew F. Giesen III Poultry Science Foundation Undergraduate Internship Award and concluded her final Bachelor’s internship at The Ohio State University. Currently, she is pursuing her Master’s degree in Poultry Science as a Graduate Research Associate at the Prestage Department of Poultry Science, NCSU. Her laboratory team’s focus is on studying impactful enteric pathogens in the poultry industry, such as Eimeria and Salmonella, and their effects on the poultry gut health. Her research aims to develop new in vitro techniques for Eimeria and strategies to control and prevent coccidia infection using anticoccidials and vaccines.

Area(s) of Expertise

Our current goal is to develop in vitro techniques for Eimeria with the aim of replicating its complete life cycle. In the future, the research will focus on modifying Eimeria's life cycle using genetics for the development of control strategies.
