Bio

Dr. Frank Siewerdt earned a bachelor’s and a master’s degrees from the Federal University of Pelotas in Brazil, a Ph.D. from North Carolina State University and an MBA from the University of Arkansas. Before joining the Prestage Department of Poultry Science, he spent 15 years in academia and 12 years in industry. He also worked at the USDA and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.

At Cobb-Vantress, Siewerdt was the senior director of genetics, providing research and development leadership to improve existing broiler genetics and create new breeder products. At USDA, he was the National Program Leader at the National Institute of Food and Agriculture, providing leadership in grant-making programs in animal genetics, animal welfare, and small business innovation research, among other programs. Siewerdt’s research interests are in breeding and genetics, focusing on applications in industry programs. He also provides leadership for the Food Animal Initiative.
