CALS came to the fair

A showcase of College of Agriculture and Life Sciences programs was on view at the 2013 North Carolina State Fair. Prominent in the fair’s Agriculture Today tent was a CALS exhibit focused on accessibility in agriculture, with displays from the Biological and Agricultural Engineering Research Shop, the North Carolina AgrAbility Partnership and Extension therapeutic horticulture programs.

Entomologist is State Fair’s giant pumpkin king

As an Extension entomologist at N.C. State University, Dr. Jack Bacheler helps folks grow crops without giving up too much to insects that feast on plants. This year, Bacheler himself has a gardening success story – he is the proud producer of the State Fair’s biggest pumpkin.

CALS is omnipresent at 2012 State Fair

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences again had a significant presence at the N.C. State Fair — whether it was Cooperative Extension personnel manning a station at the Cultivating a Career exhibit, the always popular N.C. State Howling Cow Ice Cream booth (courtesy of the CALS Department of Food, Bioprocessing and Nutrition Sciences), CALS students teaching kids about farm animals or fashioning elaborate horticulture displays, Dr. Tom Monaco’s prize-winning peppers or a plethora of 4-H entries in a range of competitions.
