Rodolphe Barrangou, an NC State professor and pioneer of the discovery of the adaptive bacterial immune system known as CRISPR, has been named a recipient of the 2016 Canada Gairdner International Award, one of the world’s most esteemed medical research prizes.

Barrangou selected for Warren Alpert Foundation Prize

Rodolphe Barrangou, an NC State professor and pioneer of the discovery of the adaptive bacterial immune system known as CRISPR, has been named a recipient of the 2016 Warren Alpert Foundation Prize. The prize comes with a cash award of $500,000, to be divided equally among Barrangou and four other recipients who have contributed “to the understanding of the CRISPR bacterial defense system and the revolutionary discovery that it can be powerfully adapted for genome editing.”

CALS profs named NC State Innovators of the Year

Two College of Agriculture and Life Sciences professors have won NC State University's 2015 Innovator of the Year Award. Drs. Sylvia Blankenship and Todd Klaenhammer were recognized by university Chancellor Randy Woodson during the Office of Technology Transfer's 26th Celebration of Innovation and Entrepreneurship earlier this month.
