Cristobal’s Soil Moisture Research

Soil sampling in the nutsedge field

For the second week at the university I worked on taking soil samples in order to gather information  on the amount of water found within the soil. To accomplish this first I had to take three samples from three different lanes of nutsedge crop which was done the first time on Monday. The first three where in the northern side where they where taken at different depths. The second one was the central part and the samples where taken at the same depth. The last samples where taken from the southern part of the crop section. From there they were weighed while in their current wet condition. They are then placed in an oven at 100 degrees Celsius in order to remove the moisture. On Wednesday the same samples as the Monday ones were removed from the oven and weighed. With this data we can learn how much moisture is within the soil. On Thursday I took new soil samples in order to weigh them again and repeated what I did on Monday. These samples will be weighed at there dry level on Monday.

On Saturday Alex, Bartolome, and I met at a Spanish restaurant and had traditional Spanish Tapas which are like small meal plates that are shared among people. On Sunday the three of us went to the beach and enjoyed the sun and the ocean.
