During the summer semester, I completed an international research program at Nagoya University in Aichi, Japan, through NC State’s Research Pack Abroad initiative. Working in the Laboratory of Animal Integrative Physiology under the mentorship of Dr. Takashi Yoshimura and Taeko Ohkawa, I conducted pharmacological intervention experiments using mouse models. My research focused on testing novel thyroid hormone analogs engineered to improve lipid metabolism disorders while minimizing liver, cardiovascular, and bone toxicity. Specifically, I evaluated whether oral administration of this compound could achieve efficacy comparable to previously established intraperitoneal injection methods. Beyond the laboratory, I fully engaged in cultural immersion opportunities alongside my lab mates and fellow Research Pack Abroad participants.
