Shur is a Goodnight Scholar

To save his family farm when his father was struck by a severe heart attack, Brandan Shur, then 12 years old, turned to NC State University for information. The mentoring relationship that ensued with a member of the Department of Horticultural Science helped pave his academic path.

Pasour Pursues Passion for Plants at NC State

Graduating from Alamance High School, where he competed as a lacrosse player, Rhett Pasour is eager to begin studies in horticultural science with aspirations in ornamental plant breeding. As a recent inductee into the Goodnight Scholar program, Pasour shows an intrinsic interest to make the most this opportunity through studies, people, and experiences to become an agricultural leader and benefit others.

Sweeter than Sweetpotato Research

NC State reaped sweeping honors at the National Sweetpotato Collaborators Annual Meeting. With North Carolina being the nation’s top sweetpotato producer, the Nashville, Tennessee meeting was well represented by the College of Agriculture and Life Science.

Cockson Wins Industry Award for Floriculture Research

Paul Cockson, a master’s student in Horticultural Science, was recently awarded the 2019 Altman Family Scholarship from the American Floral Endowment (AFE). This year’s scholarship efforts focused on three graduate students at leading institutions who are actively engaged in meaningful research, are excellent with communication, and possess qualities of leadership and commitment to the industry.

Top Ten Finish for Horticulture Hardscapers

Like pioneers in the earliest days of our nation, 36 students and three faculty members ventured west to Fort Collins, Colorado, and scaled the Great Rocky Mountains. Except this snowshoe trek was an early team building exercise to inspire and refocus before participating in the 44th National Collegiate Landscape Competition hosted by Colorado State University.
