NC State Hops Breeding Research Receives NCDA&CS Backing
The North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ (NCDA&CS) New and Emerging Crops Program is supporting ongoing research at the Mountain Horticultural Crops Research and Extension Center in Mills River, North Carolina. The funding will back research to develop new hops varieties for the craft beer industry in North Carolina.
Jeanine Davis, associate professor in horticultural science and Extension specialist, is leading the project with help from lead breeder, Luping Qu, a research specialist in horticultural science. The team is developing new hybrids they hope will produce hop varieties with higher yields and that are more suitable to the climate and growing conditions found in North Carolina and across the Southeast.
Check out the NCDA&CS’s blog post to learn more details about how the grant will benefit this research.
