Media Advisory: NC State to Dedicate Plant Sciences Building

NC State University Plant Sciences Building

MEDIA ADVISORY – For photos, videos, quotes and other background materials see go.ncsu.edu/psi-media-kit.

On April 12, 2022, NC State University officials and stakeholders will dedicate the NC State University Plant Sciences Building. The dedication event is free and open to the public, media and the NC State campus community. For photos, videos, quotes and other background materials, visit the N.C. PSI Media Kit.

The soon-to-be-occupied NC State Plant Sciences Building is in the heart of NC State’s Centennial Campus. Design firm Flad Architects and construction company DPR Construction collaborated with NC State to turn the vision for a world-class plant sciences facility into a five-story, 185,000-sq. ft. reality.

Among the building’s features: rare growth chambers, 25-foot greenhouses that can house any crop and several core labs that specialize in mass spectrometry, measuring volatiles or chemical compounds that plants use to communicate, and machinery that can quickly sequence not only plants but also the microbes and other living organisms on them.

The NC State Plant Sciences Building will bring together researchers from diverse disciplines to support collaborations within the university, and external collaborations with industry, government and other academic research institutions.

###

The N.C. Plant Sciences Initiative and NC State University Plant Sciences Building were envisioned by farmers, championed by state leaders, overwhelmingly approved by the voters of North Carolina, and anticipated by all stakeholders. This dedication event is more than a celebration of the opening of a building. It is a moment to recognize the generous donors and friends who contributed to the vision of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and NC State University to create a hub for plant sciences innovation and discovery.
