This Research Pack Abroad summer research opportunity will provide students the opportunity to sharpen their research skills working with faculty at Universidad de Cuenca.
Summer 2026
Orchid Greenhouse
Conduct independent micropropagation research in the university’s orchid greenhouse, which houses orchids from across Ecuador and explore the local mountain regions for native orchid species.
Ecuadorian Mountain Systems
Conduct research on plant nutrient flux in the Ecuadorian mountain ecosystems. You’ll conduct field work in the mountains as well as laboratory work to analyze soil samples.
Students will experience a full-cultural immersion during the internship by living independently in the city. Weekends are free for the students to explore the area.

Cost
- Students cover the cost of their airfare, housing in Ecuador and food directly
- Universidad de Cuenca will place students in homestays, which will also provide students with daily meals
- Students register their participation through Study Abroad Independent Study/Research Abroad
- $75 non-refundable application fee
- $150 Study Abroad Fee
