My lab works on investigating the interactions between plant viruses, their hosts, and their insect vectors. My research focuses on Maize Mosaic Virus (MMV), and its vector, the corn planthopper (Peregrinus maidis). The corn planthopper is a particularly devastating insect pest as infestations result in crop losses from feeding damage, and from the virus infections.
My project aims are to identify and characterize protein-protein interactions between viral and host proteins to better understand the mechanisms involved in acquisition and transmission of the virus.
