Bio
Amanda’s research focuses on the epidemiology and population genetics of Oomycete plant pathogens, particularly Phytophthora infestans, the causal agent of late blight and the 1840s Irish potato famine. This includes looking into the past, such as studying historic populations of P. infestans from preserved herbarium specimens, as well as looking forward into the future and working to develop new ways of detecting P. infestans in the field using smart phone technology.
