Elucidating the basis of plant-fungal pathogen interactions

My work focuses on understanding the molecular basis of plant-fungal pathogen interactions and developing tools for early disease detection, in particular major cereal diseases such as Magnaporthe oryzae, the rice blast pathogen and vegetable diseases including Verticillium wilt of tomato.  Current projects are:

  • Characterizing effector proteins from Verticillium dahliae
  • Identifying volatile organic compounds (VOCs) as diagnostic biomarkers for early disease detection

Courses currently taught: I teach fungal sections of PP501 (Biology of Plant Pathogens) and PP502 (Plant Disease Methods and Diagnosis)
