Bio
Mariely is a Ph.D. candidate from the Applied Ecology Department at NC State. She is originally from Puerto Rico, where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences from the University of Puerto Rico – Río Piedras. She moved to North Carolina for graduate school in 2019 and has been researching stream ecosystem response to natural disturbances, particularly droughts and hurricanes, and the role of geomorphology in this response. This work is done in collaboration with the Luquillo Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) Program in Puerto Rico, where she has been involved in collecting, identifying, and analyzing long-term datasets, particularly the macroinvertebrates.
