Co-Majors
Master’s Level
Students may co-major at the master’s level in programs with identical degrees but without the same requirements (i.e. two master’s programs – one with a mandatory thesis and one without a thesis requirement).
Requirements
- Obtain approval of both graduate programs
- Find appropriate representation on the advisory committee
- Meet the requirements of both programs
Students who co-major are not required to declare a minor. One degree is awarded and the co-major is noted on the transcript. Enrolled co-majors will be classified in only one program for record purposes.
Doctoral Level
Students may co-major at the doctoral level with the approval of both programs and with the appointment of a co-chair from each program on the advisory committee.
Requirements
- Students cannot co-major between Doctor of Philosophy and Doctor of Education degree programs
- Doctoral co-majors must meet all requirements for majors in both programs
One degree is awarded and the co-major is noted on the transcript. Enrolled co-majors will be classified in only one program for record purposes.
Note: The Graduate School will respond to requests for a co-major within five business days of receipt.
