AHS May Blog: Last Chance to Enroll in NC Prevents Diabetes Prevention Program!

The Department of Agricultural and Human Sciences (AHS) publishes a monthly blog written by students, alumni, and faculty sharing important topics and helpful resources related to the fields of agricultural, extension, and human science. In the May blog post, Casey Collins, Extension Associate and Eat Smart, Move More, Prevent Diabetes/Weigh Less Program Manager, provides information on enrolling into a diabetes prevention program.

NC Prevents Diabetes is a partnership between NC State University and the NC Division of Public Health with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina to offer diabetes prevention programs (DPPs) to North Carolinians regardless of their insurance coverage or employment status. This project allows any North Carolinian, eligible for a DPP based on Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) criteria, to participate in a DPP free of charge.

If you have been diagnosed with prediabetes or are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes, this program is for you. You CAN prevent type 2 diabetes. Eat Smart, Move More, Prevent Diabetes can help! The program focuses on evidence-based strategies to achieve a healthy weight and prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes. Classes are held online with a live instructor and they receive one-on-one support outside class.

Later this year, the project is coming to a close, and new enrollments under this funding will only be available through September 2024. New classes are launching in May, June, August, and September. This is the last chance for NC residents to register for free!  Click HERE to enroll in the program and get a year of support to reach your health goals!
