AEE Doctoral Student Joins International Conference Panel

Nassib Mugwanya

Nassib Mugwanya, a doctoral student in agricultural and Extension education, recently sat on the Reconciling Agroecology and Biotechnology | U.S. State Department” panel at the World Food Prize Foundation conference. The Foundation’s mission is to elevate innovations and inspire action to sustainably increase the quality, quantity and availability of food for all. Mugwanya joined four other panelists to discuss reconciling two approaches (agroecology and agricultural biotechnology) to understand how biotechnology can serve as an essential tool that can work in conjunction with agroecological practices to promote sustainable agriculture and help small- and medium-sized enterprises and farmers.

Mugwanya has also been invited by the German Development Agency (GIZ) to speak about the same topic, “Agroecology in Africa: Prospects, Constraints, and Opportunities.” The high-level, closed-door meeting will be for GIZ stakeholders involved in agroecology and organic farming worldwide.

Thank you, Nassib, for representing NC State University, and good luck with your continued success in our department.
