AEE Doctoral Student Sits on Panel at International Conference

Front exterior of Patterson Hall

AEE doctoral student, Nassib Mugwanya, recently sat on a panel at The World Food Prize Foundation conference. The World Food Prize Foundation’s mission is to elevate innovations and inspire action to sustainably increase the quality, quantity and availability of food for all. Mugwanya sat on the “Reconciling Agroecology and Biotechnology | U.S. State Department” panel with four other panelists. The focus of this panel was to have a discussion to reconcile two approaches (agroecology and agricultural biotechnology) to understand how biotechnology can serve as an important tool that can work in conjunction with agroecological practices to promote sustainable agriculture and help small- and medium-sized enterprises and farmers. You can also view the discussion panel here.

Mugwanya has also been invited by the German Development Agency (GIZ) to speak about the same topic “Agroecology in Africa: Prospects, Constraints, and Opportunities”. This will be a high-level closed-door meeting for GIZ stakeholders involved in agroecology/organic farming from all over the world. Thank you Nassib for representing NC State and good luck with your continued success in our department.
