Graduate Degree Requirements and Course Schedule

Requirements

Master of Science in AEHS – Agricultural Leadership Development Concentration

  • AEHS 501 – Foundations of Agricultural & Extension Education
  • AEHS 578 – Scientific Inquiry in Agricultural & Extension Education
  • AEHS 550 – Leadership Theory
  • Choose one additional course in Research or Statistics (3 hours):
    • AEHS 777 – Qualitative Research Methods in the Agricultural & Life Sciences
    • ST 511 – Statistical Methods for Researchers I
  • Choose two additional Leadership Content courses (6 hours)
    • AEHS 560 – Organizational & Administrative Leadership
    • AEHS 565 – Community Leadership
    • AEHS 570 – Methods of Change in Agricultural Education and Human Sciences
    • AEHS 595 – Critical and Creative Thinking
  • Choose one course in Instructional Methodology (3 hours)
    • AEHS 523 – Adult Education in Agriculture
    • AEHS 735 – Effective Teaching in Agriculture & Life Sciences (recommended for those who desire to teach in higher education)

AEHS 695 – Master’s Thesis Research (6 hours)

Students are allowed to take 9 hours of elective courses. These can be in AEHS or in disciplines such as animal science, crop science, horticultural science, entomology, forestry, and youth development and family life education, among others.

Although it is not required, students can also declare a minor in another discipline. Students will need to take 9 hours in a specialty and work with a professor from that area.

  • AEHS 578 – Scientific Inquiry in Agricultural & Extension Education
  • AEHS 550 – Leadership Theory
  • Choose two additional Leadership Content courses: (6 hours)
    • AEHS 560 – Organizational & Administrative Leadership
    • AEHS 565 – Community Leadership
    • AHS 570 – Methods of Change in Agricultural and Human Sciences
    • AEHS 595 – Critical and Creative Thinking
  • Choose one course in Instructional Methodology: (3 hours)
    • AEHS 523 – Adult Education in Agriculture
    • AEHS 735 – Effective Teaching in Agriculture & Life Sciences (recommended for those who desire to teach in higher education)
  • Choose one of the following for Culminating Master’s Project (3 hours)
    • AEHS 620 – Special Problems in Agricultural and Extension Education
    • AEHS 693 – Master’s Supervised Research

Students will take 9 hours of elective courses. These courses must be at the 500 level or above and can be taken in AEHS or from other academic disciplines subject to approval of the students’ advisor and DGP.

Although it is not required, students can also declare a minor in another discipline. Students will need to take 9 hours in a specialty and work with a professor from that area.
