Registration Open for the 2024 Emerging Issues Forum

Registration is now open for the Institute for Emerging Issues’ 2024 Emerging Issues Forum, Weathering Financial Storms: A Resilient Future for North Carolina Families. The forum will take place Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2024, at the NC State University McKimmon Center in Raleigh.

Too many of us are unprepared financially for an economic downturn or an emergency. According to a 2022 survey by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, 37 percent of American households reported they would be unable to cover their expenses for more than a month if they lost their primary source of income.

The 2024 Emerging Issues Forum will examine financial resilience: the ability for households to financially withstand and recover from economic challenges.

Sessions will examine actions that can be taken by households, policy makers, financial institutions, employers and others to strengthen resilience levels. Topics covered will include saving, differences in financial education and tools across generations, the promise and peril of technology to strengthen resilience, dealing with debt, and more.

Michelle Singletary, award-winning personal finance columnist for The Washington Post, will deliver keynote remarks. Attendees will also hear insights on financial decision-making from the experts at the Center for Advanced Hindsight at Duke University.

Individual tickets are $250 and will increase to $295 on Jan. 1, 2024. Scholarships are available for students attending any two- or four-year college or university within the state. Scholarships will also be available to those who identify ticket affordability as a barrier to attending the forum. Discounts will be available to groups of six.
