Hamby Family Graduate Student Award in Memory of John W. Hamby Jr.

The Hamby family has honored the memory of John W. Hamby Jr. by establishing funds to support M.S. or Ph.D. students in the Prestage Department of Poultry Science.

The $25,000 award will be used to provide graduate awards to M.S. or Ph.D. students in the Prestage Department of Poultry Science.  Awards may be used for tuition as well as for student travel, books and supplies, research, professional organization memberships, or other opportunities that enhance the student’s educational experience.

John W. Hamby Jr. was born in Surry County, North Carolina. He graduated from NC State University in 1951 with a degree in Agriculture. While attending NC State, he was a member of Kappa Phi Kappa Honorary Fraternity and served as Vice President of NC State’s chapter of the Future Farmers of America. He later served as Advisory Board Member to the Dean Legates of NC State’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and Dean Bateman’s Advisory Committee at CALS.
