We offer a variety of scholarship and funding opportunities for our students.

Plant Biology Training Grants

Department faculty members participate in the biotechnology and genomics training grants, which provide highly competitive stipends for graduate education. The NC State Graduate School Support Plan provides tuition and health insurance support in addition to the salary stipend.

Plant Biology Graduate Program Travel Awards

This award is restricted to students in the plant biology graduate program.

PBGSA Travel Award

Plant Biology Graduate Student Association (PBGSA) travel awards are available for research and travel expenses. Funding is based on several criteria, expected budget and PBGSA account balance. The application cycle is announced every Spring semester.

NIH Biotechnology Graduate Fellowships

The NIH/NCSU Molecular Biotechnology Training Program (MBTP) for graduate students was established with the goal of enhancing students’ research and training in molecular biotechnology beyond the exposure provided by their doctoral programs.

GRAD-AID for Ag

GRAD-AID for Ag is a new National Science Foundation (NSF) and NC State funded graduate training program that will recruit and train two cohorts of highly motivated doctoral students at the intersection of basic and applied plant science. The program’s goal: develop a skilled, diverse workforce capable of solving societal grand challenges in global ag sustainability and food security.

Department of Education GAANN Graduate Fellowships

The Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need (GAANN) program provides fellowships to assist graduate students with excellent records who demonstrate financial need and plan to pursue the highest degree available in their course study at the institution in a field designated as an area of national need. Grants are awarded to academic departments and programs in institutions of higher education to sustain and enhance the capacity for teaching and research in areas of national need.
