Container gardening guidance

A new publication from N.C. Cooperative Extension gives Piedmont gardeners guidance on growing fruits, herbs and vegetables in containers.

The publication, “How to Create a Container Garden for Edibles in the North Carolina Piedmont” is now online at http://cals.ncsu.edu/hort_sci/extension/documents/ag-753.pdf.

It not only includes information on selecting a container, planting media and plants, it also includes design ideas for combinations of vegetables, fruits and herbs.

The publication was developed by Kim Richter, a recent graduate in horticultural science; Dr. Lucy Bradley, assistant professor and Extension specialist for urban horticulture; Dr. Mark Kistler, assistant professor of agricultural and Extension education; and Dr. Julie Sherk, assistant professor of horticultural science.

The related publication “Container Gardening Planting Calendar for Edibles in the N.C. Piedmont is available at http://cals.ncsu.edu/hort_sci/extension/documents/ag-748.pdf.
