The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) at NC State University is preparing for an important leadership transition in its advancement team. After 18 years of dedicated service to CALS, Sonia Murphy has stepped into a new role as associate vice chancellor for University Development, effective March 14.
Murphy has been a pivotal leader in CALS Advancement, serving as assistant dean for philanthropy and president of the North Carolina Agricultural Foundation for the past eight years. Under her leadership, the college has achieved record-breaking fundraising success, strengthened alumni and donor engagement, and furthered CALS’ mission in transformative ways.
“My time with the North Carolina Agricultural Foundation and working for Dean Garey Fox has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career,” Murphy said. “I am continually inspired by Dean Fox’s powerful leadership and his unwavering commitment to the growth and success of the college. Working alongside each of you to advance the mission of the foundation has been a joyful and rewarding experience.”
“Sonia has been an exceptional leader and champion for CALS,” said CALS Dean Garey Fox. “Her vision, strategic mindset, and deep commitment to our college have helped us reach new heights. While we will miss her leadership in CALS Advancement, we are thrilled that she will continue supporting the university’s broader fundraising efforts in her new role.”
Interim Leadership and Search for Permanent Successor
To ensure a seamless transition, current CALS Advancement team members Jason Gipe and Kathy Kennel will take on interim leadership roles:
