grant Awards may be used to provide support for enhancement of North Carolina State University Field Laboratories and Research Stations, including those owned by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture. The 2019 program is targeted for equipment or infrastructural enhancements. Faculty, research station personnel, field lab personnel or CALS Research Office staff may apply.
It is anticipated that a total of up to $4,100 will be distributed as one award. Funds will be available in early May 2019 and should be spent by Dec. 31, 2019

- Field Lab(s) or Research Station(s) on which the enhancements will be made
- Project Start and End Dates – Must be between May 1, 2019 and December 31, 2019
- Total Requested Funds
- Matching Funds (not required)
- Project description (Should not exceed one page. This information will be required via a textbox, but it is recommended you type it in a Word Document prior to submitting and then copy and paste the information into a textbox) Problem/project summary
- Information about the specific equipment/enhancements requested
- Research activities or station operations to be enabled
- Relationships with other current or planned program initiatives
- How the project will improve efficiencies or improve competitiveness for future extramural grant.
- Partners to be included and their contribution and involvement in the project

- Brief description and letter of commitment of any matching funds (if applicable).
Proposals do not need to be approved by the Office of Sponsored Programs. Indirect costs do not apply to these grants.

Proposal and Award Process:
Restricted awards will be administered by the Associate Dean and Director of NCARS. Funding requests may be submitted by faculty members, field laboratory and research station superintendents, or CALS Research Office administrators. The Associate Dean and Director of NCARS, or his or her designee, shall consult with the Director of the Experiment Station Division to provide recommendations on the priority of submissions to the Board.
Reporting Requirements:
A final report outlining activities undertaken, results and impacts is due by March 1, 2020.

All publications, posters, websites, field day presentations, etc. resulting from this internal competitive grant program must include the following statement: “This activity was funded, in part, by the Smith Initiative of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at NC State University.”
