The Faculty Senate needs you! We are actively seeking CALS faculty to run for the Faculty Senate and to serve on the Hearing Faculty Grievance and Non-Reappointment committees. These are important roles that ensure fairness for our community.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 10.

Faculty governance at NC State University relies on faculty from across every college to serve. The Faculty Senate is a body of representatives elected from each college and the general constituency of the university. Seats are assigned proportionately to the size of each college. Senators meet with the chancellor, provost, and other senior university administrators regularly and provide advice on policy, hiring, and matters of concern to faculty. Only faculty members eligible to vote will receive election invitations. To be eligible to vote, faculty members must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Full-time tenured and tenure track faculty with at least an FTE of 0.75-benefit eligibility
  • Full-time professional track faculty, except field faculty
  • Faculty in the Phased Retirement Program
  • Emeritus faculty
  • Not in an administrative position higher than a department head

Not sure about the Senate? Join the Hearing committee roster or the Faculty Grievance and Non-Reappointment committee roster. Visit the Faculty Senate Info Doc or contact Nikki Cofield, Faculty Senate executive, for more information about these committees.

To learn more about being a faculty senator, ask a current CALS faculty senator about their experience and the college’s nomination process.

To indicate your interest in running, you can email a CALS faculty senator or Nikki Cofield, Faculty Senate executive assistant: faculty_senate@ncsu.edu. Include a brief bio for the election ballot in your email by Friday, March 10.
