Faculty Elections

Campus belltower
NC State’s Faculty Senate is currently holding elections for faculty leadership positions, including Senate representatives for all colleges including CALS, but this year is also an election for the Chair of Faculty for the whole university and CALS’ own Dr. Frederick (Fred) Parker is one of the two finalists.

The Chair position has a dual role at both the campus and statewide level, specifically in UNC-System groups and activities that directly impact NCSU’s students, administration, and of course faculty, which is increasingly important with numerous initiatives being undertaken by the North Carolina General Assembly and UNC-System Board of Governors. As a result, we hope to increase faculty participation, starting with this vote that runs through Noon on April 6.

As mentioned, CALS has a direct connection through Dr. Fred Parker in Agricultural and Resource Economics, as one of the two finalists for Chair-Elect. Fred was nominated due to deep involvement at both the campus and statewide levels, as indicated in his short bio connected to the ballots and also shown below:

Frederick Parker, PhD

Fred Parker’s commitment to faculty led to current and past service in numerous roles, including current elected positions on the statewide UNC-System Faculty Assembly and its Executive Committee representing the four largest schools (NC State University, UNC-Chapel Hill, ECU, and UNC-Charlotte), as well as serving on several NC State University and College committees. Dr. Parker’s dedication to student success and instructional expertise led to teaching awards at College and University levels, with national award nominations as well. In addition, Fred was recently appointed to statewide committees redesigning the funding and accountability model for all UNC-system universities, and a separate committee covering retirement and other benefits for all NC government employees, serving as the sole faculty representative from any UNC campus on both. He is passionate about the future of our students, faculty, NC State University and the UNC-System overall, and believes more will be achieved through additional synergies as Chair of the Faculty. Dr. Parker joined NC State University in 2010, after working and/or teaching in five other states and traveling in numerous other countries, and he is committed to open communication and welcomes discussion anytime.
