Dr. Muquarrab A. Qureshi, DVM, M.Sc., Ph.D., is the lecturer for this year’s annual Clyde W. Eby Memorial Lecture. He will presenting “Everything is Contextual – Even Production Agriculture” on April 17th.
The lecture will be held in Bostian Hall 2722 at 2 p.m. The reception will be held in the Scott Hall Lobby at 3:30 p.m.
About Clyde W. Eby
Clyde W. Eby was a native of New Bern, North Carolina. After graduating from the Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro, Virginia, he attended the University of North Carolina, class of 1929, and played varsity football. He later graduated from the Pearce Business College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. During World War II, he entered a wholesale lumber and log brokerage business with his father and brother. After his father and brother died, he added lines of poultry medications, supplies, equipment and other animal health products for sale. He later formed the Clyde Eby Corporation with distribution centers in North and South Carolina.
About the Memorial Lecture
Mrs. Elizabeth Madden Eby established the Clyde Eby Memorial Enrichment Endowment in the North Carolina Agricultural Foundation to support the enrichment of the Prestage Department of Poultry Science in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at North Carolina State University. The program honors Clyde W. Eby’s memory and contributions to the development of a dynamic poultry industry in North Carolina. The Clyde W. Eby Memorial Lecture is a highlight of the Prestage Department of Poultry Science’s academic year.
About the Speaker
Dr. Muquarrab Ahmed Qureshi is a member of the U.S. Senior Executive Service and currently serves as Deputy Director in the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) at USDA.
Prior to joining USDA, Dr. Qureshi served as a Professor of Immunology, the Director of Interdisciplinary Graduate Program of Physiology, Director of Gradu
ate Program of Poultry Science, Chair of the Executive Committee for Graduate Program of Immunology and the Associate Dean of the Graduate School at North Carolina State University.
During his tenure at NC State, Dr. Qureshi received multiple national outstanding teaching awards. He was a world leader in chicken macrophage biology – a transformed chicken macrophage cell line, MQ-NCSU, developed while at NC State continues to serve as biological material for macrophage biology research around the world.
Dr. Qureshi has authored 115 peer-reviewed scientific publications, mentored 20 M.S. and Ph.D. students and is a Fellow of the Poultry Science Association. He was a Fulbright Scholar and has completed several international assignments for the United Nations and the United State government.
In 2003 Dr. Qureshi joined USDA’s Cooperative State, Research, Education, and Extension Service as a National Program Leader for Animal Genetics. Prior to his current position as the Deputy Director of the Institute of Youth, Family, and Community, he served as the Director of the Division of Animal Systems within NIFA’s Institute of Food Production and Sustainability.
Dr. Qureshi holds DVM and M.Sc. degrees from Pakistan. He has a Ph.D. in Immunogenetics and Immunotoxicology from Cornell University.
