Join us on Friday, March 10 from 10:00am – 12:00pm for a Labeling Party to help support the work of N.C. PSI’s Sweet-APPS project!

Did you know that all fruits and vegetables are evaluated, or “graded” for quality before they reach the grocery store? Learn about what goes into the grading process for sweetpotatoes and train a beta version of a machine learning algorithm at this labeling party!

During this event, you will help train the beta version of a machine learning algorithm to better identify different shapes of sweetpotato, so that over the long term, researchers can better understand how to obtain an “ideal” sweetpotato.

The party will include a brief introduction on how sweetpotato grading works, what the Sweet-APPS team is doing to improve grading for growers and packers, and an explanation on how to use the labeling tool to evaluate sweetpotato shape. The rest of the time will be devoted to using the tool, while enjoying some coffee and snacks!

Everyone is welcome, and no prior knowledge of machine learning, sweetpotatoes or grading is expected. Food will be provided.

Additional Information:
– Participants need to register in advance to receive temporary credentials to access the application
– Bring your own laptop with an updated browser (Chrome, Firefox or another modern browser)
