CREdO Kenya

We are modeling the Connecting Research, Education, and Outreach (CREdO) framework in the economically important value chains namely aquaculture and African Indigenous vegetables (AIV) in Kenya to strengthen linkages within the respective sectors. The CREdO framework is a system that connects agriculture extension with applied research and higher education for sustainable economic development and wellbeing in rural communities. By working with a network of local partners such as national and local government, research organizations, universities, producers, input suppliers, farmers cooperatives, our intended project outcome is sustainable systemic change.

African Indigenous Vegetables

African Indigenous vegetables (AIVs) are adaptable to many ecologies, requires low input agriculture and are tolerant to abiotic and biotic stresses. AIVs are widely consumed by the most food insecure and could complement staple based diets. So, these could help alleviate food and nutritional security as well as income.

Aquaculture

Kenya’s fisheries sector play an important role in the country’s economic and social development, contributing 0.6% of the GDP and offering employment to 500,000 Kenyans. Fisheries industry include both aquaculture and capture fisheries.
