Event Navigation

Bring some happiness to your garden and local bees by building a bee hotel just in time for the spring!

Resident bee-xpert and Applied Ecology urban entomologist, Dr. Elsa Youngsteadt will partner with Hill Library’s Makerspace for this virtual build-a-long.

The first portion (~20 minutes) will be a talk by Elsa about the local bees in your garden and then the MakerSpace team will guide you through the process of building your very own bee hotel*! We will be building this together during the webinar, so bring the materials with you and log in to the Zoom from where you will be building.

Update January 25, 2021 – the pre-cut kits have sold out for this event! There is so much interest that we will definitely run this event again sometime in the future. Please sign up for our newsletter to keep up to date with all of our events.

You will still need several other items that are not included in the kit, such as wood glue and a power drill. The kit is not required to participate in the event, and participants may choose to source their own materials from the list above.
Questions or comments? Please email Michelle at appliedecology@ncsu.edu.
*Note that these are bee hotels for solitary, native bees and not bee hives for honey bee colonies.
