fish stories at orvis

We’ve partnered with Orvis on Wade Avenue (next to Whole Foods) to bring you, Field Stories!  Join us for an evening of fishy tales from our team of ecologists. These stories feature experiences from the field that place our love of nature and adventure in an ecological context.

These events are free and open to the public with food and drink sponsored by Hopfly Brewery.

This month’s story is “Fishing bait blitzes for big snook and tarpon in Caribbean rivers” by Gus Engman!

Gus is postdoctoral researcher at North Carolina State University, he holds a PhD in Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology from NCSU, a Master’s of Biology from the University of Puerto Rico, and a Bachelor’s degree in Marine Science and Biology from the University of Miami. He conducts research on riverine fish populations, communities, and river food webs with the goal of informing better ecosystem and fisheries conservation and management through global change. He is also a lifelong, dedicated, and self-reported mediocre angler who has chased everything from Brook Trout in upstate New York to Bigmouth Sleeper on the island of Puerto Rico.
