Additional Changes to Optimize Student Success

Aug. 16, 2024

Dear NC State community, —

On Aug. 1, you received a communication regarding several changes within units reporting up to the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost to align with the new UNC System policy, “Equality Within the University of North Carolina.” At that time, we announced that the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity (OIED) would become the Office of Institutional Equity and Equal Opportunity.

We are continuing to review NC State’s compliance with this policy, which is required by Sept. 1, 2024. The university is taking the following actions to clarify roles and ensure alignment with the policy and related UNC System guidance:

  • In order to clarify the role of the office, the new name of the office will be the Office of Equal Opportunity, effective immediately. The Office of Equal Opportunity’s portfolio will focus solely on equal opportunity and related compliance areas. We will also ensure that content on university websites will reflect this change and be in alignment with UNC System policy.
  • We are suspending all diversity, equity and inclusion-related trainings effective immediately, while we review them to ensure that they are in alignment with the “Equality Within the University of North Carolina” policy. Trainings that are required by federal or state law or UNC System Board of Governors policy will continue.

I want to thank the entire campus community for your valuable input and patience during this time of transition. Further details will be communicated as necessary. If you have any questions about these changes, please contact Provost’s Office Chief of Staff and Director of Projects and Planning Kelly Wick at kmwick@ncsu.edu

Sincerely,
Warwick Arden
Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost
