The North Carolina Plant Sciences Initiative at NC State University will launch its startup company incubator in the Plant Sciences Building on Centennial Campus on Thursday April 11, 2024.

The incubator, part of the $165 million world-class Plant Sciences Building, is a newly upfitted 2,500 square foot combined open office and wet lab space. It will house three agricultural technology startup companies emerging from the university

The incubator is part of the N.C. PSI’s commercialization and entrepreneurship programs aimed at enabling entrepreneurs to commercialize NC State plant sciences research discoveries, with the goal of bringing new products and services to the marketplace to advance agriculture in North Carolina and beyond.

The incubator’s occupants are all participants in the N.C. PSI’s startup program, led by a 10-member commercialization advisory council of university administrators and faculty along with ag tech industry leaders.

“The incubator helps us meet the initiative’s mission of translating ideas into solutions that generate real value for the communities and economies we serve,” says Kathleen Pitcher, N.C. PSI’s director of innovation partnerships. “We are in an excellent position to leverage the deep and diverse expertise within NC State and the private sector for delivering truly impactful solutions to critical issues.”

The April 11 launch will begin with a seminar from 4 to 5 p.m. with a reception to follow. The seminar will be held in the PSB’s seminar room and will feature talks by N.C. PSI–affiliated startup companies. A networking social hour will follow in with drinks and hors d’oeuvres in the incubator space on the fourth floor.
